In 1935, the Marine Cafe at 936 West Pender Street was the scene of a failed burglary.

Two masked “bandits” held up manager Gus Evans and were able to steal the cash register from the seafood restaurant. They ran outside the building, and in their rush to reach a waiting car, the two men dropped the cash register on the sidewalk…
